CHUAN SPA HOLDS INAUGURAL GLOBAL WELLNESS WEEK TO PROMOTE MENTAL AND PHYSICAL HEALTH AT THE LANGHAM AND CORDIS HOTELS WORLDWIDE

(Hong Kong, 29 July 2021) – For the first time, the Chuan Spas at The Langham and Cordis hotels around the world will hold their first Global Wellness week from 2 to 8 August, 2021.

Complimentary to guests who register at the hotels, these events and activities are meticulously planned to cater to all different fitness levels, age and wellness preferences.

Ranging from kid-friendly tai-chi classes in Hong Kong, group night runs in Shanghai, sunrise walks along the shore of Lake Michigan in Chicago, aqua workouts in Auckland, to self-walking tours with maps through the charming neighbourhood of Pasadena, these fitness activities are designed to be stimulating and experiential for the guests.

For those seeking to calm the body and soul, the wellness week also features pilates, reiki lessons and a range of yoga events from sessions at sunset, poolside or yin yoga.

“We want to encourage people to be active, stay healthy and also inspire them to spend more time taking care of themselves, especially as we cope with the COVID-19 pandemic” said Amy Chan, assistant director of spa, Langham Hospitality Group.

Chan continued, “Chuan Spa takes a holistic approach to wellness, embracing the centuries-old healing philosophies of Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) and we want to educate and impart the benefits of TCM to all our guests.”

Drawing on the powers of the five elements - wood, fire, earth, metal, and water, Chuan Spa’s treatments are based on Chinese medicine plants and principles, combined with aromatherapy. Prior to every Chuan Spa experience, a signature five element questionnaire will be filled up to determine each guest’s element. Each treatment will begin with the chosen element’s breathing ritual and completed with the ear auricular therapy which helps to relax and relieve anxiety and pain.

In addition to free consultations, other TCM treatments featured in Chuan Spa’s Global Wellness week include:

-Cupping is a therapy used in TCM to remove stagnation and stimulate the flow of ‘qi’. Qi is the flow of vital energy circulating through the body. The therapy involves placing cups on the skin to create suction and facilitate the flow of ‘qi’ in the body. The suction may facilitate healing with blood flow.

-Gua sha is a natural, alternative therapy that involves scraping your skin with a massage tool to improve your circulation.

-Meridian line rebalancing where acupressure techniques are used to re-align the body.

Guest may also create their own aroma sachets and fragrances using Chuan’s signature five elements essential oils. These oils are a custom blend of aroma exclusively created in consultation with professionals in Chinese medicine and by Christophe Laudamiel, a Master Perfumer. Chuan Spa essential oils have been developed based on the fact that natural scents interact significantly with the body, and thus have an impact on the different dimensions of our mental states. This interaction is well-known and mastered for a long time in TCM and has since been proven effective scientifically.

Other wellness activities include, aroma flower baths, five elements tea tasting, de-tox shots of multi- vitamins infused healthy boosters, massages, meditation, mindfulness and nutrition talks by experts to provide guidance on healthy living.
For those that are not able to attend the health and wellness events at the hotels, selected sessions will be live streamed on social media platforms (Facebook and WeChat).
