With the launch of its Corporate Social Responsibility programme CONNECT, The Langham has taken one step further in striving for excellence in sustainable and responsible operations. The group has launched CONNECT Conferences allowing meeting, event and group travel planners the option to select sustainable initiatives, as well as a 'Guests of the Earth' programme with a focus on energy conservation, water efficiency and management, community involvement and sustainable services.
Our properties have adopted various energy-saving initiatives, such as retrofitting energy-efficient lighting, maximising the use of natural lighting, and using 100% renewable energy at The Langham, Boston. Our dedication is recognised with The Langham, Auckland receiving the internationally accredited EarthCheck Gold Certification and seven hotels the Silver Certification.
A number of hotels have an in-house water purification and bottling system, reusing Langham-branded glass bottles to reduce plastic waste, while others have implemented water-saving devices for their showers and kitchens. Waste management and recycling services have also been implemented, with recycling bins incorporated in our guest rooms to create awareness for sustainability.
The Langham extends its reach through community involvement. Our hotels have participated in international coastal cleanups as well as the annual WWF Earth Hour campaign. Much time and resources are also dedicated to charitable partnerships within local markets. For example, Langham Place, Hong Kong has been donating used wine corks from restaurants and banquets to St. James Settlement, a local charity organisation. These wine corks are transformed into pens by the physically disadvantaged, and are on sale at the LIFE shop in the hotel.
While The Langham is fervent about its cause, the quality of service is never compromised.
